Alberobello is a small town in Puglia with an entire quarter wholly composed of story-book like homes called trulli. A trullo (singular) is a dwelling built without mortar of local limestone and usually whitewashed, with a conical roof formed of flat-pitched spiral courses. The origin of the trulli is remote, no doubt related to the rocky nature of the soil and the landscape. Inside the trulli, the rooms are small and usually windowless. Because of its uniqueness, Alberobello is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
