St. Patrick Church is the oldest Catholic church in the city of Portland. Designed by Otto Kleemann, and built in 1891, the exterior of the church is Clackamas County basalt. The stained glass windows are some of the earliest work of the Povey Brothers Studio in Portland. The community was established in 1885 to serve the mostly Irish Catholic lumber and dockworkers in the area called Slabtown. Later, it also served immigrants from Croatia, Slovakia, and Slovenia. It was originally a mission of the cathedral.
