Near the riverside community of Rome, Oregon, along the Owyhee River, are the Pillars of Rome. The "pillars" resemble ancient Roman architecture. Composed of pale tuffaceous deposits with a thin layer of basalt at the top, these eroded towers rise several hundred feet. The pillars were a landmark to pioneers traveling the Oregon Trail. Depending on the light, these rock formations make for wonderful pictures . . . which I hope I captured. These are the beauties of southeast Oregon!
