Each year in July, the small town of Joseph in northeast Oregon (pop. 1200) celebrates its Chief Joseph Days. The town and the festival are named after Chief Joseph (1840-1904), the great chief of the Wallowa Band of the Nez Perce Indians. The festival in his honor includes a parade, a rodeo, and native dancing. The town itself is interesting. When the timber market collapsed in the 1980s, Joseph redefined itself as an arts colony. It is now home to a number of upscale shops, galleries, and bronze foundries. Enjoy the pics!
