Westport is a vibrant and brightly colored heritage town on Clew Bay in County Mayo. The town was planned by the architect James Wyatt and built about 1780 in connection with the completion of the Brown family home: Westport House. Foxford, down the road, on the River Moy, is the home of Foxford Woolen Mills, founded in 1892 by Irish Sister of Charity Mother Agnes Morrogh-Bernard. The mill was set up to provide work for the local population and to ease the suffering in the post-Famine era.
