Crossing the Straits of Messina, we arrived in Sicily and headed for Taormina. The city is situated on a cliff (820 ft) with a magnificent view of the coastline and Mt. Etna. Its mild winter climate made it an international resort in the 19th century, a favorite of the English. Taormina boasts a beautiful Greek theater (3C BC), remodeled by the Romans. With its fashionable shopping streets, beautiful gardens, and commanding view, Taormina remains an important tourist destination. Most memorable for us pilgrims: the rain. See the pictures below!
