Built over 5,000 years ago, Newgrange is a thousand years older than Stonehenge. Constructed with some 250,000 tons of stone, Newgrange is one of the world's best preserved "passage tombs," a place of mystery that bears witness to Ireland's Neolithic culture and spirituality. At the winter solstice, light pours through an upper passageway and illuminates the inner sanctum. It is one of the most spectacular pre-historic sights in Europe.
