Loch Ness is well known for its most important habitant: the Lock Ness monster named "Nessie." But even if you ignore the monster stories, Loch Ness is impressive in itself. The lake is 23 miles long and almost 800 feet deep. Along its shore is romantic Urquhart Castle. The castle has a thousand year history, ending with its destruction in 1689. Finally, we visited Beauly Priory, a ruin near Inverness, founded in 1230 by the Valliscaulian monks from France.
