From Galway we took a day trip through Connemara, visiting Killary Harbor and the village of Leenane. A popular movie, "The Field," was filmed here in 1990. From Leenane we headed for Kylemore Abbey, built by a wealthy English businessman, Mitchell Henry, in the 1860's, after he and his wife honeymooned in the area. They are both buried on the grounds. The abbey is probably the most photogenic building in Ireland. The abbey later became a school and the home of Benedictine nuns. The view from the lakeshore (left) is magnificent.
